Fostering: The Lifeline That Helps Us Save More Cats
At S.A.M. our mission is to save as many feline lives as possible—but we can’t do it alone. Behind every successful adoption and every cat we pull from a shelter, there’s often an unsung hero: a foster caregiver.
Fostering is the heart of rescue. When you open your home to a cat in need, you’re doing more than providing a safe place—you’re helping us save lives we wouldn’t otherwise have room for.
How Fostering Saves Lives
Rescues are often limited by space and resources. Once our facility or foster network is full, we have to say "no" to other cats in need—even those facing euthanasia at overcrowded shelters. But when someone steps up to foster, it opens a spot for us to say “yes” to the next cat who needs help.
One foster home = One more life saved.
And that ripple effect continues—each foster frees up shelter space and gives us flexibility to respond in emergencies.
What Fosters Provide
Foster homes offer a calm, loving environment where cats can decompress, heal, and be socialized. This is especially critical for:
Kittens too young for adoption
Cats recovering from illness or injury
Shy or traumatized cats who need one-on-one attention
Seniors who struggle in a shelter setting
Cats in foster care often become more adoptable because they’re relaxed, better socialized, and their unique personalities can shine through.
We Support You Every Step of the Way
Fostering doesn’t require you to be a cat expert. We provide:
All medical care - Through our vet
Supplies (food, litter, crates, etc.)
Guidance and support whenever you need it
You provide the space, the love, and the time—it’s truly a team effort.
Letting Go Makes Room for the Next Life
It’s never easy to say goodbye, but every adoption is a happy ending—and it means you can help the next cat who needs you. Foster homes are the launchpads to forever families, and you’ll be part of every cat’s journey to a better life.
